Caregiver Partner Program
The South Madison Coalition of the Elderly is delighted to announce that we have received a generous grant to expand our Volunteer Caregiver Partner Program in 2011. The grant has been awarded by the local women’s philanthropy group, A Fund for Women. The new grant is expected to allow us to serve 100 caregivers! To learn more, call us at 251-8405 and ask for the Caregiver Partner coordinator.
We are seeking caregivers who would like to be matched. Are you feeling overwhelmed trying to deal with the medical or financial issues of an older adult in your care? Do you have too little time to look for resources, do necessary tasks, or take care of yourself?
Our Caregiver Partner program provides volunteers to help caregivers manage problems they may encounter in taking care of their loved one. The volunteers provide this assistance based on the specific need or problem an individual caregiver is facing.
Help from a volunteer can come in many ways. A volunteer could provide company for the older adult while the caregiver runs errands or attends to personal matters. A volunteer might help a caregiver understand how to use the internet to access the loved one's MyChart health record, or work with Social Security, Medicare or Medical assistance programs. A volunteer could provide specialized technical assistance with a particularly complex problem.
We are fortunate to have found a group of talented and dedicated volunteers! They include people with expertise in finance, community resources, health care, and legal systems, as well as individuals willing to help with practical tasks or provide companionship.
We welcome additional volunteers to join our program. Hours are highly flexible, and we provide careful training and on-going support. Call us at 251-8405 to find out how you can help.
